Healing Your Body by Detoxing

Weekly Wisdom to Inspire

Every day, we are exposed to contaminants in our food, water and air that did not exist 100 years ago.

These toxins wreak havoc in our bodies, interfering with the many delicate systems that keep us healthy, functional, and alive.

The toxins in our environment do more than damage our bodies—they interfere with our ability to raise the quality of our luminous energy field  (LEF), making it difficult to readily experience unity with all creation.

Today, our chances of enjoying a long and healthy life such as our ancestors once did are greatly diminished.

In fact, we are 99% certain to suffer and die from the diseases of civilization: cancer, heart disease, dementia.

Only 1% of us will die of old age.

The good news is we can change this.

When we combine an ancient shamanic healing discipline with cutting edge neuroscience, we can actually heal disease before it manifests in the body.

We can reprogram our biological destiny, so we don’t have to relive the illnesses and dramas that run in our families.

We can create extraordinary health for the rest of our lives.

Years ago, Dr Alberto Villoldo as a young medical anthropologist with a research grant from a large Swiss pharmaceutical company, spent months in the Amazon looking for a breakthrough cure for cancer, heart disease or dementia.

What he found was that these diseases did not exist in the indigenous communities he visited.

It was extraordinary.

What did these people know about healthy living that we did not?

They knew three things.

They knew you had to detox the body.

They knew you had to upgrade the quality of the energy field so you could upgrade the body.

And they knew you had to practice forgiveness in order to heal your emotions.

So, how do you detox your body?

The detox begins in your kitchen: Clear out all junk food, sports drinks, fruit juices and sodas. Read labels, and toss anything that has ingredients you can’t pronounce.

Eliminate everything that is processed, contains preservatives, coloring or additives.

And, most importantly, sugar.

One hundred years ago, the average American ate five pounds of sugar per year.

Today we are eating 200 pounds of refined sugars and another 180 pounds of refined grains that turn into sugars as they enter the bloodstream.

In addition to processed foods, you’ll need to avoid the most common substances that cause inflammation: Gluten-containing products such as wheat, rye, barley and malt in its various forms.

The body does not recognize the gluten protein, which produces inflammation.

Foods containing gluten quickly turn into sugar—one slice of toast raises your blood sugar more quickly than a tablespoon of sugar.

Some people are more sensitive to gluten than others—sensitivity indicators include brain fog, headaches, fatigue, joint pain, poor sleep, digestive problems and leaky gut.

Dairy products (cheese, yogurt, milk) are likewise on the list of detox no-nos.

Most people are either allergic or sensitive to dairy—as indicated by acne, asthma, runny nose, stuffy sinuses and eczema.

After the 10 days you can try reintroducing dairy to test if you are sensitive to it. Eggs, beans, hydrogenated oils or refined vegetable oils like corn, sunflower, soybean or canola also need to be cleared out.

Finally, you need to eliminate chocolate, which contains added sugar, although you can hold on to pure cocoa, which you can add to your morning smoothie, if desired.

The next step is to start eating real food (a primarily plant-based diet) and abstain from all foods that turn into sugar for 18 hours each day:

Stay away from fruits, honey, potatoes, rice, corn, etc.

And remember that alcohol also converts to sugar.

Sugar favors the growth of candida in your gut flora—and, incidentally, is more addictive than cocaine.

Excess sugar causes blood sugar levels to spike, which leads to inflammation, weight gain, and food cravings.

And as you start to reclaim your biology, you access the higher neural networks in the brain and begin to understand your life journey within a much broader spiritual context.

Shaping The Workings Of The Human Brain

It explains how, when we smell the scent of wolf, one of us may sense danger while the other may detect opportunity.
Shaping The Workings Of The Human Brain

In the mid-1950s, American neuroscientist Paul D. Maclean proposed a model to help explain the evolution of the human brain. Maclean’s model became known as the triune brain, and it describes how we have three evolutionarily distinct neurocomputers―each with its own intelligence, subjective feel of the world, and sense of time and space.

Maclean’s model is too general to be of value to students of evolutionary anatomy, yet it is helpful to metaphorically understand how each of us reacts differently to situations, depending on the “brain” we are responding from.

It explains how, when we smell the scent of wolf, one of us may sense danger while the other may detect opportunity.

The first brain is the reptilian brain, or R-brain, which is anatomically very similar to the brain of modern-day reptiles.

This brain region is completely instinctual and primarily interested in survival.

It regulates most autonomic functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and body temperature; and it is involved in the Fight or Flight Response.

There is nothing cuddly about a reptile, and this brain region, like a cold-blooded serpent, feels no emotions.

The second brain is the limbic system, which is made up primarily of the amygdala, hypothalamus, and the hippocampus. Maclean described this as the brain of instinct and emotion.

The limbic system is also known as the mammalian brain, or M-brain. As the name implies, this is the brain most dominant in mammals, which flourished about the same time that dinosaurs were staving off extinction.

As such, it represents one more step in the ladder of evolutionary complexity.

In the limbic system, signals are decoded according to four fundamental programs, known as the Four F’s―fear, feeding, fighting, and fornicating.

The M-brain will interpret meeting a person for the first time as an individual to be wary of, a dinner date or promising business partner, a potential adversary, or a possible mate.

This brain also interprets color according to the cultural environment that programmed it: red, for example, means “danger, stop” in the United States, but it means “good fortune” to the people of China, and “best” or “beautiful” to Russians.

To better understand how the M-brain functions, let’s look at the structures within it that evolved to ensure our survival.

The limbic brain contains the almond-shaped amygdala and the seahorse-shaped hippocampus.

Both are involved in processing information from our environment via our emotions.

The amygdala, from the Greek word for almond, governs our fight-or-flight response, which is our automatic and instantaneous reaction to real or imagined threats.

Basically, it’s the fear center of the brain that allows us to respond to dangerous situations reflexively, unconsciously, and immediately.

If an enemy ambushes us, we become terrified and fight or flee.

If a snake strikes out at us, we instinctively jump away.

The hippocampus is in the deepest and most forward portion of each medial temporal lobe and extends into both hemispheres of the brain.

It was named by 16th century Italian anatomist Julius Caesar Aranzi, who noted its uncanny resemblance to the seahorse and chose the Greek word for this creature.

Early researchers believed the hippocampus was involved with the perception of smell, no doubt because it is located near the olfactory system.

Even though studies later showed that olfaction was not a primary function of the hippocampus, researchers continued to explore the relationship between the memory of scents and hippocampal function—such as how a certain smell will remind you of a childhood event.

Recent research, however, reveals that rather than serving as a storage center for memories, the hippocampus acts more as a way station, acquiring information from the five senses and then parceling out the data for processing either by the amygdala, in the event of a perceived threat, or to the cerebral cortex for all other needs.

In effect, the hippocampus operates something like a digital camera that can process both still pictures and video.

Facts, like photographs, are pieces of data that can generally be verbalized in simple terms.

Recalling facts is termed declarative memory.

Events, like video, are more complex and involve relationships that are both spatial as well as temporal.

This mental activity is called episodic memory.

When the hippocampus begins to deteriorate, new experiences are less likely to be stored and memorialized, and this is a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.

Advanced imaging techniques like MRI and PET scans can clearly show that loss of physical tissue as well as loss of function in the hippocampus is an early indicator of this disease.

The hippocampus begins to fail due to free radical and chemical damage caused by certain foods, trauma and stress.

Conventional wisdom tells us that once the hippocampus begins to fail, the ability to process information through higher brain centers is stunted, that our emotional repertoire is diminished, and that genuine feelings become inaccessible.

The good news is that when we combine an ancient shamanic healing discipline with cutting edge neuroscience, we can actually heal disease before it manifests in the body.

We can reprogram our biological destiny so we don’t have to relive the illnesses and dramas that run in our families.

We can create extraordinary health for the rest of our lives.

MEDITATE FOR A WORLD OF PEACE AND ABUNDANCE Part 3 of 3

Many of us have tried to meditate but stopped when we become bored or frustrated, NOT NOW!

Try resting your mind on a single point or object of focus.

The Laika developed a form of meditation called Stopping the World.

They inhale and follow their breath into their body, exhale, and follow their breath to join the mountains and the wind.

Eventually they become their breath and are able to ride the wind anywhere they chose, to visit in their imagination the four corners of the world.

Try this:

Sit in a darkened room with a small candle lit before you.

As you gaze at the candle, note that your awareness is like the flame, darting here and there, blown first in one direction and then another.

Invite your mind to be the observer as you focus on your in-breath.

Find the space at the top of the breath where the lungs are comfortably full and pause there for an instant, silently saying “I am…”

As you exhale, notice how your breath stirs the flame ever so slightly.

Release all the air in your lungs, and at the bottom of the breath, pause for an instant and silently say “My breath…
I am my breath.”

Continue the exercise for five minutes.

As you become more comfortable sitting still, you will gradually increase the duration of your inhalation and your exhalation.

Research has shown that meditation results in longer telomeres, the end-caps of chromosomes that protect the integrity of DNA and determine health and longevity.

Just as stress switches on the genes that create cardiovascular disease and cancer, the serenity of meditation switches on the genes for a long and healthy life.

MEDITATE FOR A WORLD OF PEACE AND ABUNDANCE. Part 2

Whether we realize it or not, we are all dreaming the world into being, although most people have lost the ability to guide the dream, and are, as a result, at the mercy of the collective nightmare.

Shamans understand how to dream with their eyes open to envision the possible.

It’s not a fantasy or hallucination, but rather the ultimate nature of reality itself, where one can actually steer and guide the dream.

This is how creation happens.

Dreamtime—the creative matrix—exists in a place within us.

It infuses all matter and energy, connecting every creature, rock, star, ray of light, or bit of cosmic dust.

For the shaman, dreaming reality is not only an ability but a duty one we must perform with grace and love so our grandchildren will inherit a world of peace and abundance.

This is our ultimate task today: to look through a narrow window into the future to find what our species is becoming 10,000 years from now, and to bring that vision back into the present to inform the person we’re becoming today.

In this way, we can consciously participate in our own evolution.

MEDITATE FOR A WORLD OF PEACE AND ABUNDANCE

In many Indigenous communities, elders sit in meditation, envisioning the world they want their grandchildren to inherit.
Part 1 of 3

I am convinced that meditation is the method the sages of the East employed to access the power of the God Brain.

To us in the West, it serves only as a means of relaxation.

To the Laika, meditation is journeying—entering the Timeless Now to heal events that occurred in the past, and to correct the course of destiny.

It is the first step toward accessing the divine within nature, and within ourselves.

In the Timeless Now, destiny hangs like a ripe fruit for our picking.

This is the fruit of the second tree of Eden, the fruit of life everlasting.

In many Indigenous communities, elders sit in meditation, envisioning the world they want their grandchildren to inherit—one in which the rivers and air are clean, there’s food for all, and people live in peace with one another.

They track along our collective time lines to find a more harmonious future.

This is not the probable future, because they already know what that will be: a world much like the one we’re now experiencing—filled with pollution, devastation, and war. Instead, they track for a possible future, no matter how improbable, where people live in harmony with nature, and peace with each other.

The sages of old called this “dreaming the world into being.”

Shamanism and Initiations

Shamans understand that there are seven great initiations every human being must undergo.

They are the initiations of birth, manhood or womanhood, first love, marriage (and sometimes divorce), parenthood, sage-hood, and death.

It’s possible that you won’t go through all of these passages in a biological sense or at the usual time of life.

For example, some people never marry or have children.

Yet each of us, regardless of gender or culture, must go through them mythically at least once.

If you have no son or daughter, you may write a book or produce some other creative project that will be your “baby,” which you must learn how to parent.

You will be “born” again as you start a new life in another city or change careers, and parts of you will “die” metaphorically with the losses and changes that life brings. Initiations are inevitable.

If you resist initiation, the universe will conspire to bring you face to face with the end of a stage of your life in some other way.

Every initiation presents you with the opportunity for illumination—to awaken your divine nature, identify with the realm of the creators, experience grace, and break free of the realm of scarcity and the brutish, predatory existence that most of humanity endures.

If you miss one of your initiations, your health and emotional well-being will be compromised.

For example, if you don’t complete the initiation of marriage, you may not be able to achieve true intimacy with a partner after the romance wears off.

If you miss your initiation into manhood, you may become a puer aeternus, an eternal boy, collecting “toys” your entire life.

Psychology tells us that to fix these situations, we must understand what traumas we suffered as children, or how our dysfunctional parents taught us unhealthy behaviors.

But dissecting the past is a trap.

The shaman knows that focusing on our wounds will only reinforce them as we begin to believe that the dramatic personal stories—tragic or heroic—that we tell ourselves about our past are who we are today.

You can only heal fully when you successfully complete the initiations presented to you by life.

Initiation offers us the opportunity to heal our emotions.

All the drama and suffering in our lives is brought about by our unhealed emotions, which give rise to our beliefs about how the world works.

The shaman understands that whatever beliefs you hold about the nature of reality, the universe will prove you right.

If you venture into the woods for an evening walk with an uneasy feeling, you will hear the branches snapping ominously nearby.

If you believe that every relationship you enter will end in disaster, it probably will. If you’re convinced that you will never succeed at work, you won’t.

Conversely, positive beliefs help you to see the glass as always half full.

If you believe you deserve to be happy, happiness will find you even in trying circumstances.

If you believe the woods are safe and beautiful, they will be so.

Do you have the courage to heal your emotions through initiation?
